Ultimate Custom Night is a sort of choose-your-own-adventure take on the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, allowing you to create and play through unique challenges with any combination of 50 Five Nights at Freddy's antagonists. It's the perfect way to challenge your friends or dive deep into the lore of this beloved series. In most Five Nights At Freddy's games, you get the ability to customize the game after you've beaten a certain number of nights. These "custom night" modes allow you to change which antagonists spawn, how aggressive they are, and set other modifiers that change the way the game is played. Various combinations of challenges, mostly involving setting all of the animatronics to their most aggressive level of "20," have become popular among content creators and players who enjoy difficulty. Ultimate Custom Night expands on this premise by giving you the ability to add more than just four or five animatronic enemies. Instead of being limited by the small cast of one of the other games, Ultimate Custom Night allows you to challenge any combination of 50 characters from the Five Nights at Freddy's games. This makes it an incredible game for creating challenge runs for your friends, enjoying your favorite foes from the previous games, or diving deeper into the lore of the FIve Nights at Freddy's world. Originally conceived as a DLC for Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, Ultimate Custom Night quickly became a project far too large to be released as an addon. In order to house the plethora of animatronic antagonists, Ultimate Custom Night utilizes a level that acts as a sort of "best-of" of the previous games' environments. This means that you get doors, vents, air ducts, and a constant supply of easter eggs and callbacks to other games. As you play through the game, you can alter the appearance of the main office, allowing you to alter the feel of Ultimate Custom Night to better match your favorite other Five Nights at Freddy's locations. Most of the other Five Nights at Freddy's games are scary. Ultimate Custom Night doesn't have the same sort of cohesive atmosphere and careful suspense that the mainline titles offer. This is partially due to the game's scope and customizability, but it also seems like a deliberate choice. There are a number of different artistic styles at play that tend to clash, especially when it comes to some fo the 2d artwork and a handful of female characters. This isn't to say that the game doesn't have its share of jump scares and frightening moments - there are lots - but rather that it's much harder to be scared when you've done so much tinkering under the hood to even start the game. After all, you picked these animatronics and set their difficulty level. It would be weird if you found them scarier than the ones placed by game designers. One of the big differences between Ultimate Custom Night and the other titles is the focus on dialogue and exposition. After an animatronic jump scares you, they'll deliver a semi-random line of dialogue that often has lore implications. The other games in the franchise have had lots of worldbuilding and exposition, but very little of it has happened with the action of a monster killing you. Combined with the comparative lack of atmospheric horror, this makes getting killed in Ultimate Custom Night a lot more palatable. It's a much more relaxed, player-friendly game.
